Mobile settings, slotting and screen overrides

Company settings, directed work setup and slotting, recording the walk, screen overrides, engineered standards, and the Plex data sources the app uses.

All of these are under DataMagik Mobile in the website's top menu and need DataMagik Mobile - Mobile Admin Settings.

Settings

DataMagik Mobile → Settings. These apply to the whole company. A phone picks up a change the next time the app is opened or brought back to the front, or the company is switched.

Parcel and LTL on the phone turn on by themselves once your company has the Shipping license and an active carrier account in Shipping.

Directed work setup

DataMagik Mobile → Directed work setup. Put-away and the Run need to know where things go. This page builds that from what Plex already knows. Choose the Site, then work through the steps. Ready to go live? shows how many of the 6 steps are done.

  1. Import locations from Plex. Every active Plex location comes in with its building, type and group. The zone starts as the location's Plex picking zone where there is one, otherwise its location group. Leave Buildings (optional) blank for all, or list some. Press Import from Plex. If the result says Plex answered at most 1000 locations, import building by building to get them all. Re-importing keeps what you changed here.
  2. What each location type is. For each Plex location type, choose Storage, Staging, Line side, P&D point or Not used, and how many containers it holds (0 means no limit). Press Save location types.
  3. Zones. Check the zones. Rename or split one in Slotting.
  4. Walk order. Worked out from the location names. Correct it by recording a walk on a handheld (below).
  5. Where parts live. Press Import part homes from Plex to make part-to-zone rules from the home locations set in Plex, or from where each part sits today. Rules you wrote yourself are kept.
  6. Try it. Enter a Container serial and press Where would it go? to see the slot put-away would choose, and why.

A site is ready when it has at least one storage and one staging location, every active location has a zone, and there is at least one part rule.

Record a walk

On a handheld, open Me → Record a walk, choose the Site, tap Start, and scan location labels in the order you walk past them. Remove last undoes a mis-scan. Tap Save walk order; a walk needs at least two of the site's locations. The Run and put-away follow this order, and locations you did not walk follow the automatic order after them. Saving a walk replaces walk order numbers typed in Slotting. If saving fails, the walk is kept on the device to try again.

Slotting

DataMagik Mobile → Slotting is the detailed table behind directed work setup.

  • Slots: each location's Zone, Walk order, Capacity (0 means no limit), Kind (storage, P&D, line side or staging), P&D node and Active. Paste from a spreadsheet adds many at once: one per line, location, zone, walk order, capacity, kind.
  • Part-to-zone rules: a part, or a prefix ending in * such as 2020-*, and the zone it belongs in. When two rules match, the one with the lower Priority number is tried first, and an exact part beats a prefix. Without rules, put-away suggests any storage slot, preferring where the part already sits.

Press Save slots and rules. Saving replaces the site's whole list.

Screen overrides

DataMagik Mobile → Screen overrides. Open one of your own DataMagik apps in place of a standard phone screen, for the people and things you choose. The app owns the rest of the flow; when the person closes it they are back where they started.

Screens that can be overridden: the shipper pick list, scan load, packaging, truck close, parcel and LTL, move, hold, split, location count, put-away, the materials queue, maintenance request and check fill.

  1. Press New override.
  2. Choose the Screen, give it a Name, and choose the App to open.
  3. Set the Priority (lower is checked first) and tick On.
  4. Write the Rule (JSON), or leave it blank for everyone. Rules can look at who (who.user_id, who.roles, who.site_id) and what is on the screen (what.customer, what.part, what.shipper, what.serial, what.location), with eq, ne, in, contains, exists or regex, grouped with all, any or none. For example: {"field": "what.customer", "op": "eq", "value": "ACME"}.
  5. Optionally give a Deciding script id that the app declares, and its Fail mode: if the script cannot answer, open the phone's own screen or open the app.
  6. Optionally add Params for the app (JSON object). The app receives what is on the screen, then these params.
  7. Press Save.

Use the Test card to ask which app a phone would open for a screen and what is on it. An override only opens apps the person is allowed to open. If the phone cannot get an answer within 4 seconds, it opens its own screen. A phone already in use can take a few minutes to see a change; closing and reopening the app picks it up.

Supervisor metrics and engineered standards

DataMagik Mobile → Supervisor metrics shows, for a Site and Period, each kind of task with its count, median and standard, and each person's tasks, active minutes, tasks per hour and performance. It is open to supervisor board holders as well as Mobile Admins.

Under Engineered standards, Mobile Admins set the seconds per task for a kind at this site. It overrides the learned standard. Enter 0 or leave it blank to go back to the learned one, then press Save standards.
