Installing DataMagik Mobile
Installing DataMagik Mobile
Get the app from the App Store or Google Play, and what it asks permission for.
What you need
| Device | Minimum |
|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | iOS 15.5 or later |
| Android phone, tablet or scanner handheld | Android 7.0 or later |
A camera and NFC are optional. The app installs on devices without them, and you scan with the device's scanner or type instead.
Install the app
- On an iPhone or iPad, open the App Store. On Android, open Google Play.
- Search for DataMagik. The icon is the white DataMagik mark on purple.
- Tap Get (iPhone) or Install (Android).
- Open the app. A loading screen shows DataMagik and Magic, applied while it starts, then the sign-in screen opens.
On company-managed handhelds, your IT team may install the app for you through your device management tool. Zebra and Honeywell handhelds also need a one-time scanner setup so the trigger works in the app; see Scanners and handhelds.
Shared handhelds: a handheld that several people use is set up once by a Mobile Admin, after which people sign in by scanning their badge. See Shared devices, badges and your PIN.
Permissions the app asks for
The phone asks the first time a feature needs each one. You can change them later in the phone's own settings.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Camera | To scan barcodes and QR codes with Use camera, and to take photos for holds, maintenance requests and proof of shipment. |
| Microphone and speech recognition | To speak a message to the Assistant instead of typing it. Nothing is sent until you tap send. |
| NFC | To read NFC tags in apps your company builds. |
The app does not ask for your location or for notifications. Shop Floor alerts come through your phone's browser instead; see Shop Floor on the phone.
The first time you scan with the camera on Android, the phone may download Google's barcode scanner module. This takes a moment and needs a connection.
Updating
Updates arrive through the App Store or Google Play like any other app. Me shows the version you have under App version.
