Setting up DataMagik Mobile
Setting up DataMagik Mobile
The rollout checklist: license, Plex access, roles, Plex users, devices, printing, settings and directed work, in the order to do them.
This page is for the people who roll DataMagik Mobile out at a plant. The Mobile admin pages are under DataMagik Mobile in the top menu of the DataMagik website, and need DataMagik Mobile - Mobile Admin Settings, held by the role DataMagik Mobile - Admin. Several steps use Shop Floor setup pages, which need DataMagik - Shop Floor Admin.
1. The license
DataMagik Mobile needs the DataMagik Mobile license on your company's plan. One license covers every area of the app; your roles decide who sees which area. Parcel and LTL labels on the phone also need the Shipping license. Contact DataMagik to add either.
Without the Mobile license the app still runs your apps, dashboards and Shop Floor, but none of the Mobile areas, and the DataMagik Mobile menu is hidden on the web.
2. The plant and its Plex connection
Each plant is a Shop Floor site with its Plex PCN and Plex credential. Add or check it under Shop Floor → Setup → Sites; see The plant model. Mark a test company's site as a test site, so people see a TEST tag when they pick it.
3. Plex data sources
The app reads and writes Plex through Plex data sources that Plex must enable for your site's API user.
- Open Shop Floor → Setup → Data sources (Data Source Enablement).
- Press Check now for the site.
- Under What the grants unlock, the DataMagik Mobile group lists each feature as Ready, Needs: with the missing data sources, or Not checked yet.
- Press Copy grant request and send it to Plex support. Check again once they confirm.
The full list is in Plex data sources the app uses.
4. Roles
Give each person a DataMagik Mobile role in Admin → Company User Manager. Ten default roles cover the usual jobs, from Material Handler to Shipping Lead; give at least one person DataMagik Mobile - Admin. See Mobile roles and permissions. A role change reaches the phone the next time the app opens or comes back to the front.
5. Link people to their Plex users
So that Plex records each change under the person who made it, link each person to their Plex user number. Splits, merges and maintenance requests are refused until this is done. See People, devices and printing.
6. Shared handhelds and badges
Register each shared handheld, scan its enroll code on the device, and give floor workers badges. People with their own phone need nothing here: they sign in with their DataMagik login. See People, devices and printing.
7. Printing
Map each zone or door to its label printers under DataMagik Mobile → People and devices → Print zones. Each person sets their zone in the app on Me.
8. Company settings
Under DataMagik Mobile → Settings, choose the Assistant, who sees labor numbers, driver signatures, dock auto-load and push or pull per zone. See Mobile settings, slotting and screen overrides.
9. Directed work (if you use put-away or the Run)
Under DataMagik Mobile → Directed work setup, import the plant's locations from Plex, say what each location type is, and import where parts live. Then walk the floor with a handheld to record the walk order. See Mobile settings, slotting and screen overrides.
10. Parcel and LTL (optional)
Set up native Shipping with at least one active carrier account; see Getting started with the setup wizard. Give label buyers DataMagik Mobile - Buy or Void Carrier Labels.
11. PINs
Everyone who will release holds, scrap containers, or buy or void labels sets a 4 to 8 digit PIN in the app, on Me → Set my PIN.
12. Escalation alerts (optional)
People who should be paged by Shop Floor escalations turn on browser alerts on their phone; see Shop Floor on the phone.
Before go-live
- Every feature you will use reads Ready on Data Source Enablement.
- Rehearse with test containers on a Plex test company first.
- Shipping a shipper in Plex may send EDI to your customer and cannot be undone. Rehearse it on a test shipper.
- After the first scans, open DataMagik Mobile → Transactions. It lists the changes the phones sent, who made them and what Plex said. It opens on the refused and failed ones.
Watching it run: Transactions and Load proof
- Transactions: filter by Site, Kind, dates, and Refused and failed, Waiting, Done or All. Click a person to see only theirs. Open a row to see who it Ran in Plex as, the device, the Plex data source, what Plex said and what was read back. Export CSV downloads the list.
- Load proof: the photos, seal, trailer, BOL and driver signature captured when each truck was closed. Search by truck or shipper number.
