Shared devices, badges and your PIN
Shared devices, badges and your PIN
Sign in on a shared handheld by scanning your badge, and set the PIN that sensitive actions ask for.
Shared handhelds
A handheld that several people use is set up once by a Mobile Admin as a shared device. After that, nobody types a password on it: you pick it up and scan your badge. Your scans go into Plex as you, and the next person's go in as them.
Sign in with your badge
- The handheld shows Scan your badge, with the device's name and zone underneath.
- Scan your badge with the trigger, or tap Use camera and point it at the badge.
- The app shows Signing in… and opens on My work.

| That badge is not set up. Ask your Mobile Admin to add it. | Your badge is not linked to your DataMagik user yet. |
| Too many tries. Wait a minute, then scan again. | Too many unknown badges were scanned on this device in a few minutes. Wait, then scan yours. |
| This device was removed by your admin. | The device was revoked. It goes back to the normal sign-in screen. |
| Could not sign in. Check the connection and scan again. | Check the Wi-Fi. If it keeps happening, ask your Mobile Admin to check your account can sign in by badge. |
Who can sign in by badge
Badges are for floor accounts. If your role includes anything beyond working the floor, such as an admin permission, releasing holds, scrapping or buying carrier labels, sign in on your own phone with your DataMagik login instead. This keeps those actions tied to a device only you use.
Signing out on a shared handheld
- On Me, tap Sign out (keep this device). The handheld goes back to Scan your badge for the next person.
- If nobody touches the handheld for 10 minutes, you are signed out by yourself.
- Scans you made are still sent as you after you sign out.
- Glove mode is on by default on shared handhelds, and the zone starts as the zone the device was set up for. Both can be changed on Me; a change stays on the handheld for the next person.
Your PIN
Some actions ask for your own PIN as well as the right permission:
- releasing a quality hold;
- scrapping a container;
- buying or voiding a carrier label.
Set or change your PIN
- Open Me and tap Set my PIN.
- Enter your current PIN and tap Next. The first time, tap I don't have a PIN yet instead.
- Enter the New PIN (4 to 8 digits) and tap Next.
- Enter it again and tap OK. The app shows Your PIN is set.
Your PIN belongs to you and your company. Nobody can see it, including your admin.
Entering your PIN
When an action needs it, a keypad slides up: Enter your PIN, with a line saying what it is for, for example For: Release SJ008486. Enter it, or tap Cancel.
- Once you enter it correctly, the app does not ask again for 5 minutes.
- Five wrong PINs in a row lock it for 15 minutes: Too many wrong PINs. Ask your Mobile Admin to reset it.
- Forgot it? Ask your Mobile Admin to reset it, then set a new one on Me.
