Shop Floor
Shop Floor
Live plant boards, wall displays and machine data built on the Plex data you already have.
What Shop Floor is for
Shop Floor is the frontline layer over your Plex ERP. It turns what Plex already records about your workcenters (status, production, scrap, jobs and shifts) into boards that supervisors, operators and maintenance can read at a glance: on a desk, on a tablet at a station, or on a TV on the wall. Where your plant has PLCs, it can also read machine signals directly.
Open it from the Shop Floor menu in the top navigation. The menu only appears when your company holds the Shop Floor licence.
Where the data comes from
- Plex ERP, through data sources. Each plant is a site pointing at one Plex PCN. Boards read Plex data sources with the site's data source credential, and the Plant Readiness report reads Plex's reporting replica with the site's ODBC credential. Reading never changes Plex. A change, such as a downtime reason captured on a board, is queued to Plex through the Write Outbox, where you can see whether it landed.
- PLCs, through the on-premises connector. With OT connectivity, a connector agent running on your plant network reads machine tags over OPC-UA. The cloud never connects to your machines. The agent connects out.
Main areas
- Boards. The home page at
/shop-flooris a launcher for every board: Plant Overview, Floor Console, Live Board, Hour by Hour, Pace Board, Active Issues and Shift Handover, plus any screens you register yourself. See Boards and screens. - Setup. Sites, areas and lines, workcenter types, plant maps and the facility graph describe your plant. See Getting started and The plant model.
- Screens and displays. The screen registry decides which boards exist and what renders them. Displays put boards on TVs and kiosks in a rotation you control remotely. See Displays and kiosks.
- Data. Data Source Enablement, Console Settings, Plant Readiness, OEE Diagnostics and the Write Outbox show whether the data behind the boards is reachable and trustworthy. See OEE and Writing back to Plex.
- Machines. The OPC-UA Tag Map, Equipment and models, PLC State Map, PLC Scrap Reasons and PLC Triggers connect machine signals to workcenters. These need OT connectivity. See PLC connectivity and PLC mapping.
- Fleet. Fleet, Transport orders and Fleet optimizer manage vehicles such as AGVs. See Fleet.
- Alerts. Conditions and Escalation decides what raises an alarm and who is paged. PA announcements put alerts on the floor. See Conditions and escalation.
- Asset Health. An add-on module for alarms, faults, equipment health and maintenance insights. See Asset Health.
If something is not working, start with Troubleshooting.
Licences
- shop_floor: the module itself, including every Plex-driven board, setup screen and display.
- shop_floor_ot: OT connectivity. It unlocks the Machines setup screens and reading PLC tags through the connector. A company with Shop Floor but not OT sees a message naming OT connectivity on those screens.
- asset_health: the Asset Health module, which sits inside Shop Floor and needs the Shop Floor licence as well.
Licences are set on your company's plan. If a menu or page you expect is missing, ask your DataMagik account contact which features your plan includes.
Roles
- DataMagik - Builder sets the module up: sites, lines, workcenter types, maps, screens, displays, console bindings and alerts. Builders also run checks and assessments, and they can do everything a Viewer or Maintenance user can.
- DataMagik - Viewer views boards and the plant data pages (Plant Readiness, Data Source Enablement, OEE Diagnostics and the Write Outbox). A Viewer can also explain a stop on the Hour by Hour board and answer a page.
- DataMagik - Maintenance works Asset Health insights and alarms without needing Builder's other rights. A Maintenance user can acknowledge alarms, add notes, move insights through their states and raise Plex work requests. To open the Asset Health screens they also need DataMagik - Viewer.
Permissions: Your company administrator grants these roles in User Manager. On the Shop Floor home page, Builders see a Setup section marked Builders only, and everyone else sees Plant data instead.
